concrete LED facade

‘concrete LED facade’ (elevation, simulated night / full brightness) by dominik kommerell and angela renz (university of applied sciences stuttgart)

dominik kommerell and angela renz from the university of applied sciences stuttgart are the designers
of the concrete LED facade, an architectural facade with embedded LED lights. the project began in
emedien und raumi, a studio course focused on media architecture and interactive architecture.
the project was conducted as scientific research project where conditions and materials were tested and
documented, the prototype is a result of this research. the designers wondered if an architectural surface
could also be a media facade and vice versa. their solution is a concrete material that features embedded
LED lights which can be a media facade and a stagnant architectural material when not in use.
they envision it being used for delivering media messages as well as a space defining element.
