gentle robotic hand

researchers from harvard and yale have been developing a soft robotic hand which can delicately hold
objects, automatically adjusting its grip. while soft robotic hands aren_t new, previous incarnations ten to
employ advanced sensors, multiple motors and complex software. the new harvard-yale hand overcomes
this with a simple design employing one motor and only a few sensors. the hand aims to mimic the human
hand by sensing an object first and adjusting its grip accordingly. the hand is built using four plastic fingers
each with an embedded sensor and all controlled via a single motor. the new hand development was led by
aaron dollar, an assistant professor at yale university. dollar is currently working on improving the hand to
be more precise, making it able to hold smaller objects like a pen.
