daniel rybakken: daylight explorations

‘the subconscious effects of daylight’ by daniel rybakken, 2008
daniel rybakken is a norwegian designer who clearly has a fascination with the effects of natural daylight.
through a series of projects, rybakken has explored simulating the effects daylight using artificial light.
living in scandinavia has no doubt influenced his views on light. in ‘the subconscious effects of daylight’
he designed a small table which projects a small light onto the ground below it. the light is masked to
make it appear as if daylight is shining on the table to create a shadow. similarly, ‘surface daylight’ is
a small frame that is lit with LEDs to make it appear like daylight is shinning on it. the project doesn’t
create more light, but gives a subtle cue of daylight. rybakken explored moving light in ‘daylight comes
sideways’ a large panel of LEDs which gives the illusion of the shadow of a tree blowing in the wind.

An absolutely wicked piece of work and great guy. The passion behind this really deeply rooted in life experience Daniel had in his family home. Cannot wait for the latest installment from him. Bravissimo!
