nissan leaf ev

the nissan leaf ev is a new five-door hatchback with an all electric drive train that is set to launch in
the US and japan in late 2010. while many car companies have been showing off electric concepts at
the major autoshows for years, the nissan leaf is one of the first to make it to market. the car is driven
by an 80kw electric motor and a new compact lithium–ion battery. the battery takes only eight hours
to recharge, when plugged into a regular household outlet. it has a maximum range of 160km and
a sleek interior that sets it out from the competition. the electric vehicle market is estimated to make
up 10% of all new car sales by 2020.

Yeah baby! A -real- car powered by electricity. Big torque, and emissions far, far, away from where I'm driving.

its high time the world shifts from fuels to electric...a good first step in the new year...

So, where does all this magic electricity come from huh?
Hello people - electric cars only shift the carbon footprint and energy dependency onto the (largely) coal industry... the ones who actually MAKE the electricity... from the oil industry.
Sure, maybe less smog in cities but tonnes more smog in the rural areas where (at least in Canada/US) coal-fired plants exist.
Check the facts before leaping into the green frenzy.
Driving less, riding a bike etc. would do so much more for our air quality than everyone buying these battery-powered cars. And don't get me started on what to do with all those spent lithium ion batteries once they burn out...

So excited to see some automakers taking initiative on pollution issues. They will certainly lead the charge in changing the face of our global climate issues and be heroes for it. I will be doing my part by patronizing my local St. Louis Nissan Dealer for sure.
