rinspeed UC? concept
the swiss automotive design studio rinspeed is poised to release their vision for the future of automobiles
at the upcoming geneva motor show. their UC? concept is a small smart car-esque vehicle that is all
electric. the car concept is to radical on the outside but the interior is filled with some advanced
electronics and new interactive technology. the in-car system is designed specifically to synch with the
user’s mobile. while the car won’t have a huge driving range due to the small size of its battery, the car
is designed to charge on the go at any number of charging stations. despite its small size, the UC?
concept also has lots of trunk space for hauling around groceries. most notably the car doesn’t have a
steering wheel, instead users steer the car using a center mounted joystick making it possible to steer
from the left or right.

the interior colors looks like the concept target audience are children. as well they dont mix well with the exterior colors.
except the joystick it doesnt bring up anything new and awkwardly strong resembles the fiat 500. but have those designers really thought about why there has been a steering wheel and not a joystick for a good reason?
furthermore it doesnt perpetuate the spirit of the commercial which is - per se - not advertising the car, but some hip lifestyle which the car definitely does not stand for.

the joystick is also not a new concept, some other car manufacturer has tried that before (unfortunately, I don't remember which one). Rinspeed, in my opinion, has almost always failed to combine good design and technological ideas - some concepts were interesting because of the technology, but were remarkably ugly and vice versa

Just another concept car with a twist of green ... on a remake of Fiat 500 - pathetic. It really does not bring anything new, this is a new toy to please Rinspeed designers and their chicks !!!
