lace-amatic

lace-amatic

if you get tired of lacing your shoes every time you go outside, then the lace-amatic is the perfect gadget
for you. this small two-part plastic mechanism acts as a ratchet to tighten up pre-tied shoes allowing
users to slip on their shoe and tighten it up without retying a bow every time. the lace-amatic slips over
the shoe's laces and once twisted, it tightens up the laces just like tying them up. while you may be
thinking this is a rather useless invention for lazy people who don't want to tie their shoelaces, it was
actually designed for older people and those with reduced mobility, for whom bending down to tie up
their shoes is a difficult task.

Simple, egonomic, no lacing eyelet friction, lever & cam support, identical shoe fitting for open & closed and probably the fastest system that uses conventional supportive laces. All that with a one finger operation!
Somewhere a Velcro CEO is having a nightmare.

USELESS

Hhhmmm. Let see. Instant tightening & knotting. No more kneeling in doorways. One hand free for holding stuff. No more lace handling of street soaked whatever. This product isn't for the disabled. It's for anyone with a brain who owns a pair of laced shoes. This is why I come to THIS site.
Thanks again DB

i would buy a couple of these if they were cheap.
diamonds   03.09.10
no reason for them to be expensive
karl   03.09.10
A John Wooster on another site says he's going to be selling them in the USA for 9.99 plus shipping.
Harold   03.09.10
Okay okay... But don't like the design. Than you have a stupid piece of plastic on your shoe. Transparent or not, it is still visible :)
MJW   03.09.10
I guess it will be a success in US........
decadent.....
maciste   03.09.10
this is as useless as the automatic egg cracker (look it up on youtube). People can't even bend down to tie their laces any more, like #2 up there always kneeling in doorways while his hands are full of tweeting iphones and coffe cups.

Sure, it's useful for the disabled and elderly, but they still have to bend down to twist it or do whatever it needs to work.
I for one would rather wear slip-ons or velcro shoes than having an extra gadget on all my pairs of shoes.

The momentum from the lace-amatic will press down on your foot and make it hurt in about 5 minutes. If you can't or do not have the time to do your laces this product will not be the ansver to your real problems. Sorry but this is a product the world doesn't need.
Marcus   03.09.10
indeed in that way we can make up thousands of things, which would increase our laziness. It doesn't focuses on a problem it focuses on excessive extra's which for most healthy humans is not necessary. But do buy it when you need this, it's seem a good tell sell product. But designboom showing this on it's website little disappointed. Hope the next designers won't be an product for weight loss.

If you need a gadget like this, then buy loafers/slip-ons.
Eric   03.09.10
umm slip on shoes anyone....
gimmy   03.09.10
how lazy can you be to want this. i can't believe what i am seeing. this is so ridiculous. can someone make me a device that holds my fork and shovels food into my mouth while i lay in a coma because that is just the sort of slob i am.
give me a break jake. people are lazy bastards   03.09.10
Why the people above who can't see the value of this even bother coming to this site I can not imagine. OK, maybe it's not for you, but I like it and I don't seem to be the only one. It's not about product design, it's about lifestyle choices – open your minds people!!
J-Sho   03.09.10
Anyone read the comment that says it would hurt... Doest anuone else other thn tht person and me see it would be really PAINFUL after a few minutes!!!
M.Jivanjee   03.09.10
No, it's not laziness and it wouldn't be painful...think about people with dyspraxia (fine motor planning difficulties), balance problems, difficulty bending due to arthritis or back pain - I could go on and on. There are so many people who could benefit from this.
As for pain, the laces start really loose so you can slip your foot into the shoe, and you use this to tighten them to your desired fit.

Being one of "those people" with a permanent disability in one hand after an accident means i've had to wear slip on runners ..this simple little device gives me the choice of buying "normal" shoes again...this is nothing to do with laziness..its a brilliant idea. Even if your hand was temporarily in a cast this would let you wear your shoes without your mother having to tie your shoe laces. I'd like a slightly more discreet design though, looks a little big..i'm gonna get them anyway
Con   03.10.10
My OT suggested I try it out & I've been using it for a couple of months. No it doesn't hurt and there are lots of different ways to set it up. When I've recovered I think I'm going to keep using it. Reading some the comments here shows just how fearful people get of something different . The more things change- the more they stay the same!
J Davidson   03.10.10
Can I get one for my pants. Would be great so I can loosen them off ofter a big meal...
D Hipwell   03.10.10
Haven't worn shoes with laces for years. There are so many other options in the marketplace. Elastic seems to work fine and requires no hands. Velcro is fully adjustable and of a size that makes it easy to adjust for those with arthritic hands d;-0
Jetwax   03.10.10
Lace-amatic works really well for me as in my work I need to get my shoes on and off a lot without bending down to do it. Now I just use my heel to push the lever over. I would guess the guy who said Lace-amatic would press down on your foot has probably never tried them. They don't.
Frank   03.13.10
I have worn a pair for the last two weeks and I love them. I'm not lazy, but have peripheral neuropathy from chemo drugs and need the boost. They are available at www.leverageandstyle.com for ten bucks and well worth it.
