this book takes a look at design processes and includes twenty-five case studies of
'products' from a wide variety of 'industries' - furniture design, transportation design,
household appliances...
content
norman foster, konstantin grcic, the bouroullec brothers, hella jongerius, tokujin yoshioka...
offer step by step accounts of how they go about designing products and the tools
they use for visualization. the idea for this book comes from designboom's friends from 'form',
the german print and online publication that focuses on graphics and industrial design.
among the case studies discussed, of particular interest is the work of polish architect oskar zieta
who creates inflatable steel furniture. for three years he and his colleague philipp dohmen at the
ETH zurich have worked on a production technology that they call 'free internal pressure deformation'.
here is an image excerpt of the chapter - under pressure.
is it for me?
it is especially good for students and young, less 'experienced' designers.
the book is interesting because you see how projects change during the model phase.
