designer karim rashid visited toronto yesterday to discuss his new book of interior and architecture
projects: karimspace. rashid signed copies of the new book and talked about his design career. he went
on to describe his history with interiors and his love of architecture. designboom got a sneak peak at the
new book, which features forty interior projects ranging from restaurants, residences and retail projects
in 12 countries. each section features sketches, renderings and photos of the spaces. while rashid is
perhaps best known for his product and furniture designs, he also has a diverse repertoire of interior
projects that showcase his distinct aesthetic. rashid talked about his first interior project at the event,
the restaurant morimoto in philadelphia, also featured in the book. the book is published by rizzoli and
has a foreword by daniel libeskind and an introduction by alessandro mendini.

This isnt the 1990's. his furniture looks so dated without any lasting appeal. There is no longevity to this designers work. i used to like his craft but find most students have the same impact as him now.

i think he´s great. it may no have that longevity, but it doesn´t matter, nothing last forever and he knows how to play whit that fact. he has a clear idea of what design should be and he prints it on every project he takes. it´s unfair to say he is a bad designer just because he is popular. he deserves the top position he has. Viva Rashid!

I haven't seen the book yet, but just by looking at the few pictures posted above, I can't help to notice the splash of uselessness depicted all over the place.
Where is the function? Is this what good design is all about? How can we even differentiate the pieces when all of them are so decorated that they have trouble standing out on their own?
My eyes are tired...
