earlier this week, brazilian artist nele azevedo, carved 1,000 figures out of ice
and placed them on the steps of the concert hall in berlin's gendarmenmarkt square.
with temperatures of 73 degrees fahreneheit, (23 degress celsius), the ice figures began melting
within half an hour. the project entitled 'melting men' was meant to bring awareness to the
world wildlife fund's warning, that melting ice could cause sea-levels to rise more than
3.3 ft by 2100.

But I can't. Well done.
Or, you know, if we just keep aging like living things do. It doesn't have to be an eco-political statement, it might just be about how fleeting life really is and how the only thing we can do while we're here is try to enjoy it.
Also, when you talk like that you sound like a douche.
An-eye-opening strategy, simple and to the point explaining our own down fall or the way we will crumble to become dust
The only people who pay attention to these things are people who already are 'aware' that there are melting ice caps. What? this merely gives them a feeling of pride through association? Oh I hear you now...
Yea...melting ice figures...metaphor for us and our destruction of the Earth...yea...changing the world...yea...awareness... What? He didn't use ALL natural water for this? It was tap water? Shame on him! I hope he drives a hybrid!
Puerile... This is about as bloated as the hippies putting flowers into rifles at point blank...actually no wait, this is far more nebulous.
As I think about it, this is pure art because it's only putting out what is placed into it - NOTHING.
love this work. stunning and haunting.
i personally think this was a wonderful wake up call, thank you to the artist and those who backed the idea.
