keep cup

keep cup

the keep cup is a reusable coffee cup that comes in the three standard cafe sizes. the cup allows users to
order a coffee to go at their favourite café, while avoiding using a disposable cup. the cup was designed
by former café owners fed up with the waste from coffee to go. the two designed the keep cup for use in
their café, but its standard sizes make it ideal for any café. the design is made from polypropylene,
santoprene and silicone making it lightweight, dishwasher safe and microwaveable. because it mimics
the design of paper cups, the keep cup fits better than mugs in espresso machines and a sealable lid keep
everything inside. the design even has a sleeve that protect your finger from hot temperatures and allows
you to select your drink of choice.

please understand, I had to spread so much harsh critisism and polemic here today, I'm exhausted. Maybe tomorrow I find the energy to tell you how much energy this design sucks out of me. It's fantastically boring. Good night.

americans and australians should start drinking coffe & similar in a proper way: sitting in a bar in a ceramic cup.
gui9do   08.20.09
@gui9do I find sitting in a ceramic cup terribly uncomfortable.

well done for designing a cup which is appropriate to a very niche problem - getting takeaway cups when heading back to an office. there have been some very serious design considerations taken into account here, from the point of view of the coffee drinker, barista and even the company which employs the coffee drinker.
I was VERY skeptical at first, but you have answered all my questions in full - i only wish we weren't so lazy that we have to produce a new type of product to keep our drinks in!

The coffee shop can provide the cup gratis, have their logo on it for advertisement. When the customer bring it back, they get a discount to encourage reusing it. I like ceramics myself but the designer must have a reason for choosing this material. I just wonder how 'green' it is to manufacture or to re-cycle this range.

this is great.whilst i believe coffee is best enjoyed in ceramic, the infinite take away waste is a serious issue worldwide.
i have been thinking of take away solutions to reduce waste and this hits the mark.
so congrats and i hope people embrace this over a dozen wasted cups with plastic lids week in week out

@Thomas: :D

But here in the Netherlands, if I'm not mistaken, the research department TNO has found out that it's better to have thrown-away cups than re-usable cups, from the environmental point-view. Than again, it is all about how you value each impact on the environment. But it is a good question to ask, what does more damage to the environment? Washing cups or disposable paper cups?

I LOVE these cups...our whole office has them, and they are so much better to drink out of than the paper/plactic take away cups....and we have estimated that we are saving around 15 cups a day from going in the bin.
