established and sons, elevating design, LDF 07

established & sons' 'elevating design' saw the company is applying their method of communication to a theoretical
debate. their ambition was to generate discourse on the area of design currently in the spotlight; the newly termed
'design art'. selected pieces from the 'volume production' collection were carved out of carrara marble and placed
upon six-metre high plinths inside a former underground bunker at westminster university.

‘we are always excited to be involved in the london design festival and this year was no exception. our elevating
design exhibition was created to provoke a debate on the much discussed subject of ‘design art’ and was the first
non-selling exhibition established & sons has put together. the selected 12 production designs, shown in beautiful
marble, including the 2 tonne aqua table by zaha hadid, were displayed on vast 6-metre high plinths in an incredible
space... we, as were our international client base, were delighted with the outcome and welcomed all spectrum of
reaction to the topic and the installation. we look forward to moving a selection of the pieces to launch our new
permanent gallery in st james's, central london.’
tamara caspersz, development & marketing director, E&S.

more information on the installation can be found at the 'elevating design' blog.

What a waste of Time!
You can't read about the works unless you go down to look at a tiny piece of information. and then when you look up to see the work, oooops! you can't see it, unless you are 6 meters tall. in 3 words - annoying and unimportant.

I was quite surprised to see the comment above, because it was absolutely fantastic and I think it was the best exhibition in London this year.

i think this piece brings into focus the deification of design and designers. design and designers are to be placed on pedestals, instead of offering genuine solutions for the betterment of life.

Agree with asuka.

Also, with brian, I think this exhibition points out the new status of designers.
Along the same line, an interesting show running in San Francisco...
