archifest 07: speaker forum

the inaugural singapore 'archifest' took place during the 2007 singapore design festival. the event featured an
exhibition, speaker forum and tours all devoted to architecture. in its first year the festival focused on the theme
of 'aspiration to realization' throughout all the various activities. this theme was very present during the two day
forum which featured a prestigious line-up of international architects and designers.
designboom spoke to a number of the keynote speakers including, dr. manabu chiba from japan, ma yansong
from china, takaharu & yui tezuka from japan, ma qingyun from china, kevin mark low from malaysia and
chan soo khian from singapore. stay tuned for designboom interviews with these architects in the near future.
japanese architect hitoshi abe revealed his new 'frp' project during the event as well. the building features a
textured exterior cladding that has an undulating pattern and multiple cut-aways. architectural works by the
speakers were also on show at old city hall in the archifest exhibition.

designboom was recently in singapore where we had the opportunity to document the progress of wilkinson eyre's masterplan for 'gardens by the bay'.

designed by moshe safdie, the platform rests 200 feet in the air and is equivalent in size to the eiffel tower laid horizontally on its side or three football fields connected end to end.
