the onsite caribbean project describes itself as drawing ‘artisan skills with contemporary design to create
product collections that reveal how local and regional efforts can bring balance to the often lopsided free
flows of globalisation. the project is spearheaded by toronto designer patty johnson, who has been working
on similar collaborative projects for many years. as the description implies the onsite caribbean project
combines design with the skills of caribbean craftspeople to make contemporary products that provide true
value to the makers. the collection of products in the line are made in a variety of different countries using a
wide array of materials and local craft processes. the collection debuted in toronto and barbados this past fall.
