Watch Case Design Concept The main idea for the outer watch case design is driven by a geometric alteration of a standard I-Beam (commonly used in the field of construction). The beam is first bent to form a half-circle and second scaled down significantly to match the size of half a wrist watch case. Two of these semi-circular bent beams (with their ends facing each other) express the main idea of the outer shell of the watch case. The second design process is important for the detailing of the first design process. It is based on an interpretation of plumbing connection details. The morphing of both design processes generates a multi-layered watch case that accentuates a sturdy, raw physical character with strong formal appearance. Watch Dial Design Concept The dial itself consists of two layers, top and bottom layer. The bottom layer is only visible through the two symmetrical cut-out areas of the top layer, graphically highlighting working and non-working hours of a weekday. Exploded View Watch Assembly Diagram The design for the watch is based on formal and technical approaches, generating the final, geometrically simplified watch case design. The watch case resembles a two shell structure with an inner and an outer shell. While the outer shell protects the inner shell and gives the watch its visual character, the inner shell is a sealed "container" combining all essential parts of the watch such as movement, dial, hands, glass, etc. Almost all parts of the inner and outer watch case are made out of cnc milled high grade aluminum, glass bead blast post processed with a hard coat anodizing finish. Even though the watchs dimensions are 55x50x15mm, the watch is fairly lightweight due to the choice of material, suiting the wrist of a Lady as well as a Gentleman.
