fiber optic sculpture – "The Bride"

The “En face” collection explores fiber optic technology as a sculpting medium and creates a new technique using light itself to shape images and representations of the human body. In addition, the name “En face”, which means “facing forward”, is chosen deliberately to challenge traditional ways of looking at art as two dimensional objects. An image is created by manipulating a glowing optical cable and by simultaneously drawing a line in all three axis. However, in order to fully comprehend and recognize it one has to stand “face to face” to the piece. Lastly, the pieces all possess two states of expression that adapts to the surrounding lighting condition; showing one image in the day and another by night.
