sky wells, 3 configuration of 15 wells
This environmental art work comprises 15 “wells that reflect the sky,” dotted along a 700-m-long wharf. Each well measures approximately 900 mm × 900 mm square, which is the same as the Japanese “tatami mat standard.” It is an attempt to cut a tatami-mat-sized art work of sky and reflect it onto the floor. The five different heights of the wells that make up the art work range from 1,200 to 3,600 mm; these heights are the “depths” of the sky reflected in the wells. The sky reflected by the art work is not all the same, and continues to change. This is the same as time never stopping. By opening up ever-changing “sky wells” on the tough floor of a infrastructure project like a wharf, this piece expresses the diversity and continuity of the landscapes that surround humanity. It is a message that immeasurable ambiguity "irresolution" is both a truth and a charm of the world in which we live.
