atelier zündel cristea: mixed-use building

located within the north of paris, france, by atelier zündel cristea is a 10-storey mixed-use building is situation within a urban zone for development.
the project consists of three different programs on a 43 meter long by 48 meter deep plot: retail space on the ground floor,
a retirement home comprised of 104 rooms and residential housing consisting of 28 flats on the upper floors.
the commercial entrance is directly accessible from street level, whereas the housing and retirement units are positioned around an inner courtyard to separate the two areas.
the open space creates a light well which allows natural light to flood the inner corridors.
the two living conditions are visually separated with wooden paneled and concrete balconies indicating the location of the housing levels.
in comparison to the lower thick block covered in white enameled briquettes with slight loggias for the retirement home.
the mixed-use building follows the demands for very low energy consuming structures required by the city of paris.
