an absurd spiral object 60" x 50"

this series of work is constructed through a process of mathematical deconstruction and reassembly. originally the drawing may have started as a design I created for an autonomous submarine, a door knob, a wind turbine, or even a blimp. using these original vector drawings, I begin a process of telling a story. the drawing is distorted, multiplied thousands of times. digital fade and idiosyncrasies set in. I use tools to try to maintain control over aspects of the evolving object. sometimes it simply ends up as a pile of digital rubble. the limits of my iMac are pushed constantly. drawings become so complex and dense the v-ram can no longer process the image. crashes, freezes are an ongoing part of the work. each drawing evolves its own computer personality. some are quite well behaved and others are simply impossible to work with. the work tells stories of cycles, religion, war, chaos, density, absurdity. sometimes it is the challenge of shaping 40 thousand polygons into a perfect 2" sphere. other times I digital crash several perfectly good drawings into each other not knowing what the outcome may be. more drawings lead to more drawings, more glitches, more crashes and the work continues.
