studiotomtom (tom huemer + tom vens) have developed ‘mutterliebe’ an installation that shows a running engine which is breeding out a chicken egg. the work is a reflection on the industry of food, giving a sarcastic view behind the production of consuming goods. the contrast between the in-and output looks over dimensional in size. the egg, which normally will be hatched out by the chicken for a period of about three weeks only needs some food and water to keep on hatching, currently has a consumption of 190 liter petrol. the heat lamp will keep the egg at an optimal hatching temperature. a micro-controller connected to a sensor keeps track of the process. in case the temperature gets too low or too high the controller will respectively turn the engine on or off.
