‘contra’ by wenchuman

chilean designer wenchuman has designed ‘contra’, a building system influenced by the use of plywood. plywood was invented in egypt more than 5.000 years ago; ancient egyptians found that wood veneers fixed together in multiple layers with grains in different directions would turnout in cheap and resistant planks. each element is made out of narrow strips of plywood sealed with velcro on both sides. when stuck perpendicularly on each other, these pieces increase their capacity to bear weight. the velcro also makes it easy to bind or unbind into multiple shapes, sizes and objects.
