‘aircraft carrier’ by erez ella, dan handel and milana gitzin adiram

the israeli pavilion, curated by erez ella, dan handel and milana gitzin adiram at the 13th international architecture exhibition of la biennale di venezia,“aircraft carrier”, deals with the dramatic changes in israeli architecture since 1973, and the american influences that made them possible. by defining four major architectural phenomena that demonstrate these changes (signals, emporiums, allies and flotillas), five leading israeli and international artists and architecture photographers were invited to reflect on them. the take on commercial merchandise stores, represents a key event in the israeli-american relations.  by mixing archival materials with commissioned art work and custom made products the exhibition aims at demonstrating how the dramatic shift of israel from socialist welfare state into a capitalist booming market is expressed and enabled by israeli architecture.
