‘the civic sports center’ by bluarchitecture

adjacent to qian jiang river, ‘the civic sports center’ in hangzhou, china, designed by chinese architects bluarchitecture, acts a connector between the natural and urban life of the city, making it a perfect location for an athletic complex. the project is based on creating an urban plaza while also providing an icon for the lack of large-scale commercial facilities and distribution of leisure spaces. with the help of convenient transportation, the edifice radiates across the whole city. influenced by hills, a mountain is created to reflect the landscape in which it is situated on. the roof of the building is interconnected to make a continuous, differentiated sports landscape with cascading athletic fields and pathways featuring basketball, tennis, badminton and volleyball courts at various levels of the recreation centre. the structure and materials of the main tower and podium are wrapped as three folding pieces, covered with cellular aluminum. its faceted crystalline geometry embedded with crystal patterns in 3D cold lamination film, attribute to giving it a honeycomb glass structure.
