‘batzek’ by yael tandler

tel aviv-based designer yael tandler has produced ‘batzek’, a collection of bowls exclusively using a process consisting of concrete and balloons. like making bread, the manufacturing technique becomes a curious and playful act, creating various experimental shapes by manipulating household materials such as rubber bands and pieces of wood. through a series of bending, stretching, blowing and tying actions, new forms become realized by inserting cement into a balloon and then inflating another balloon inside of it. the flaws which are created are the climax of the object, serving as a reminder of the spontaneous potential in process.
