dutch designer martijn westphal has recently developed ‘the bird lamp’. made from 0.8mm aircraft plywood, the lighting object maintains its form by bending thin sheets of wooden material, where the surface acts as a translucent cover for diffusing light. cut using water-jets, the bird shapes pop out from the wrapped frame, creating a contrast in illumination within each animal sillhouette.
