toronto-based blacklab architects has recently completed ‘blacklaboratory’ a studio space located in toronto, canada designed to facilitate the operations of an architecture practice. the layout was conceived as an area that offers both functionality and flexibility while supporting the many ways users can operate within it.

a custom walnut desk serves as the spine for the firm, slicing through the centre of the room serving as a work station, layout areas and meeting table.

the existing warehouse offered a unique aesthetic that defines the studio. large glass block openings on the east wall filter natural light throughout the morning. countering this is an art installation completed by the design team. 44,000 golf tees line the surface which depicts an aerial graphic of the local neighborhood. the intention was to create a single element that could offer the opportunities for the users to work in close proximity with one another in multiple configurations.
