miclau by michael lau for project twelve, 2008 exploring art and design with chinese cultural essences

myths of the twelve animals in the chinese zodiac have amazed people around the world for thousands of years. aiming to integrate this unique traditional chinese theme with contemporary design and advanced production techniques, ‘project twelve‘ investigates a cultural and design exploration for the twelve animal signs of the chinese zodiac.

the initiative invites a leading asian artist or designer annually to create an art piece using the zodiac sign of the particular year as a theme.

from the year of rat in 2008 to the year of dragon in 2012, project twelve has successfully collaborated with renowned asian artists and designers such as michael lau, cheung yee, raman hui, cynthia sah and chelsia lau, providing a new perspective on contemporary art and chinese tradition.
