paul coudamy: table diptere

'table diptère' in its closed state

french architect and designer paul coudamy's 'table diptère' is a two layer foldable / extendible
tray table.

both the upper and lower tray are made from natural wood. the upper is left in its natural state,
while the lower component is covered in high gloss paint, creating graphical two-colored lines
on the table. when open, the colored surface reflects light and contrasts with the matte natural look
of the wood.

unlike typical folding / extendible tables which require an external leaf, the two trays of the
'table diptère' hinge on an offset axis in order for the trays to move above the legs.
the surface of the table is then multiplied by two when the trays are unfolded.

the structural legs of the table are made out of two V-shape jambs which are minimal
in their design, but which guarantee stability.

the table is available in two sizes: a compact 80 x 80 cm version for 4 - 10 people
and a larger 125 x 90 cm version for 6-12 people.
