i have grappled with this idea before and not thought of anything like that, for those of us who don't like/want panniers its a good option
what about some weather proofing?
agree with harvey though push it out to 140mm and you might be able to slot in a 24pk of cans!

Bikes are often supplied without pedals. They are added later because different people like different setups (Lock In, regular, small, large etc). Of coarse you can't ride it without some pedals!! : |

Yes, I agree that nobody carries briefcases anymore. The bike looks interesting fro the side though. As for the missing pedals, of course it has pedals, this model just doesn't have it on yet, it does have the whole for the pedal as you can see.

i wonder if the increased width will affect riding. You wouldn't want it too wide otherwise you'll smack your knees against it.
And yes, few people use briefcases these days. All you need is a Backpack to fit your laptop, phone, wallet and keys

er, a laptop bag is pretty much the same as a briefcase. I'm sure it would be compatible. Use your imagination a bit?

I really like the idea, though it doesn't seem to be a "commuter" bike. Looks more like a mountain bike. It's also very expensive, it would be great if the same idea could be used for a bike that costs under 0.

An idea is always good - may it be futile or genious - for it can lead to other projects and other approaches to that problem solution.
There was a motorcycle from BMW a few years ago that had a symilar approach to this problem.

Hmmm... I see a ton of problems with this idea.
1) Stand over height
2) Banging knees on the wider bars
3) Limited function, market
4) Heavier frame
5) Costly to produce (too many weld points)

This is all style, no substance. Do you really want your laptop bag, briefcase or portfolio covered in oil, dirt, fuel, s**t and water? The first image is also photoshoped. Its sad that such a potentially good idea has been rushed out for marketing reasons, now it will be ripped off before it can be put into large scale production. I know this because i actually work where things are made, not at a computer. Rucksacks, are a lot cheaper than 1400usd

This is an incremental design improvement in an incredibly efficient machine, the bicycle.

use a messenger bag, use a bagpack or for heaven's sake take whatever bag or briefcase in your right hand and cycle with only your left hand on the handlebar.

shocks get only absorbed properly if the luggage (laptop or any other delicate load) is carried on the body and not directly on the cycle.

@ Bingo Sun Noon: If you'd know anything about commuting with a bike in nasty weather big city conditions carrying a laptop you'd recognize too how completely useless this idea is. The bicycle is only an incredibly efficient machine if its concept is not affected by some pseudo-innovation.

...and oh yeah, all of you complaining in a design-blog about having no pedals on the bike... come on, just get lost.
