'split chair'
'split chair' by berlin graphic and furniture designer daniel lorch came out of his study of
steel tube furniture from the period between 1920 to 1940. his intention was to extend
the classic tube bending construction on the basis of today's 3d laser technology. through
the bridging of these contrasting production processes, a new methodology was made feasible.

wall lamp from 'X, Y and Z' series with a green, hammered metal finish
french metal worker and designer jean prouvé never disguised the production process
of his furniture. he worked with weld that was not smoothed off and with constructions
that mainly responded to static considerations. drawing from this approach, lorch's wall
lamps from his 'X,Y and Z' light series seeks to give an account of the production process
through the design rather than obscuring it as it is common in industrial manufacturing.

Nice fabrication technique but with this chair type the back either tends to be too low, or the arms too high.
Also the seat and how it connects to the frame doesn't seem well thought through.

Hm, I don't know about the aesthetics...it reminds me of a shower chair or an over-toilet frame. Not a look I'd choose.
Amanda 06.09.10
clever use of material for the chair, but geez, it really does look like an aged person's walking frame, or shower aid (as mentioned above). Maybe the grey market will love it? I'd like to see what other ideas he could come up with using the same technique. Top marks for ingenuity.
The lamps are much more interesting.
