ronan & erwan bouroullec: apartment 50 at radiant city

'zip carpet' for vitra is placed at the centre of the room
earlier this year jasper morrison introduced ronan and erwan bouroullec to one of the owners
of an apartment in the housing block of radiant city in marseille, france, designed by le corbusier.
it was from this meeting that a collaboration began. apartment 50 is not a museum; it is a lived-in
space that they remodelled –just for the summer season. ronan and erwan decided to feature
a selection of objects from their collection of designs which seemed to rightly fit in the apartment
and match the way the owners are living in it. as an echo to charlotte perriand and jean prouvé’s
original furniture of the space, it seemed natural for them to articulate the remodelling around
the steelwood collection for magis; including a table, some chairs and a shelving system.
additionally, while remembering that le corbusier had a special interest in tapestries, they felt
comfortable with the idea of installing a group of 'clouds' made by kvadrat up on the wall.
to complete this ephemeral remodelling project the brothers included a 'zip carpet' for vitra
and two of their latest lighting designs, including 'lampalumina', for bitossi and 'lighthouse' for
established & sons and venini.
the doors to apartment 50 featuring the exhibition will open from july 15 to august 15.

There is an error here: this is the Unite d'Habitacion by Le Corbusier, not the Ville Radiuse (Radiant City).

can we see more of the apartment, less of the objects i've seen a million times. Love those built in cube display shelves.
gimmy 06.09.10
Love how Corbu's cold modernist aesthetics are reversed by the bouroullecs' ornamental approach.

About the brothers? beautiful objects they make... but why they place it there?
Would be nice to compare with the photos of the interior from the fifties :)

280 boulevard Michelet, Marseille France
just did a walk through at the la cite de l'architecture, really cool... and looks pretty spot on, minus the fact that they moved the kitchen and added modern furniture.

The objects displayed into the basement fit with the living room architecture which is not the case of the ones located within the mezzanine volume.
