'kalotte' pendant lamps

'kalotte' is a flowing form in the tradition of 50s metalwork lighting. designed by
german designer sebastian summa for the metal spinning workshop bräuer, the lamp
features two shades that are turned at a 90 angle and fused into a new form. in doing so,
it seeks to break the familiar image of a vertically hanging lamp. the 'kalotte' series
is available in different colors and material variations in limited edition.

the lamps are produced using a metal spinning technique. this production method is a
chipless transforming process for the fabrication of rotational-symmetric hollow bodies
created out of sheet metal. therefore, cost-intensive deep-drawing moulds and expensive
co-requisite technologies are not necessary. so even small series can be produced economically.
there are numerous varieties of the spinning tradition, which permit almost a free design
of complex contours and shapes.

'kalotte' was on show during  DMY berlin international design festival berlin 2010.
