'PCS bike' by taiwanese designers yen-chi yu, cheng-yu tseng and chao-han lee is an
electric bike intended for short distances. its compartment space not only provides
storage for user's belongings but also serves to help collapse the bike into a portable unit.
the project seeks to promote the reduction of traffic congestion in taiwan as a means to
reduce carbon emission levels.

'PCS bike' was part of the 'fun taiwan, new design' exhibition during DMY international design week berlin 2010.
the show featured young taiwanese designers whose work celebrated the culture, festivals
and life experiences of their country.

seoul cycle design competition 2010

currently, seoul design foundation together with designboom are hosting
seoul cycle design competition 2010. once considered a 'hard' city, seoul is making
strides toward becoming a 'soft' city by embracing design concepts that will redefine
its urban environment with an emphasis on themes centering on green, blue, history
and human. the seoul cycle design competition will be held under the theme,
'cycling with design: seoul style,' and is part of seoul’s city-wide effort at improving
its design brand and image. the primary goal of the competition is to help build a design
oriented city that focuses on its people. the competition is divided into three categories:
cycle design, cycle fashion & accessories design, and cycling infrastructure.
all three categories emphasize environment-friendly ideas, with the hope that the contest
will contribute to establishing a healthier cycling culture.

registration is currently open until july 5th, 2010. to learn more about the competition
and to enroll, see here.

I'm pretty keen on virtually any new kind bike/bicycle, but this one just doesn't reach me. It's goal is virtuous enough, but it seems kinda soulless and appliance-like, like maybe it should an autonomous robot or something.

Maybe a photo of person actually riding it would have explained the concept better.

I like it. Cool design exercise. Would have been nice to have had photos of it folded and a bit more detail on performance d;-)
