mass studies: steel mesh bag

'steel mesh bag' in use

'steel mesh bag' by korean new york-based architecture firm mass studies
(minsuk cho, kisu park, byungkyun kim) was shown in designboom's 'asia now' exhibition
at dwell on design in los angeles.

alternate view of bag in use

the bag is constructed from a steel mesh can that can be adjusted according to how
much and what you're carrying. the loose form also allows one to store small items
such as an mp3 player within the shoulder strap of the bag, altering the way it looks each
time one uses it. before use the bag measures 55 x 83 cm in size. the bag is only in the
prototype / concept stage.

Mug me please?

Cute though

You will have to wear an armour - otherwise the steel mesh will damage the clothes. Design has to be pratical not just cool.
astrid   07.21.10
Astrid, I do agree that design has to be practical but I I am not sure it the wire the mesh is made from is thick and sturdy enough to damage your clothes. The post also clarifies that the design is in the prototype stage.

if it's a steel mesh, won't it act as a Faraday cage & stop your phone receivin any signal!?
Jonny Douglas   07.21.10
besides carrying, isn't the point of having a bag to protect it's contents? from view and from the weather?
wpgmb   07.21.10
what happen with it in a rainny day?... I think this is very limited-...

Perhaps with a removable nylon liner... change colour for a lower price than the whole bag... But without the liner, it's a great answer to casino security... metal detectors, maybe a problem...

although probably not very practical in this stage of prototype at the moment in every aspect already mentioned above, give the designers credit for trying to make something quite unconventional and sticking to it.
you have to admit it was good enough to get your attention and this many replies, most blog entries on here don't get nearly as much attention!
