matali crasset: tasting memories

wine is associated with sharing, with moments of pleasure and with the 'terroir'
(regional soil, climate etc.): the universal appeal of these themes encouraged
french designer matali crasset to explore them, with respect to the glass bottle
as a vessel serving to contain wine.

as part of her collection 'in vino veritas' which is currently on show at the MUDAC, lausanne,
crasset has designed 'tasting memories', a limited edition a blown glass vessel used
for enjoying wine. the edition of 50 pieces are each signed and numbered by crasset.

'what is wine, but a moment of sharing around the meeting of land, grapes and man.
'tasting memories' an object in which to put the moment into a memory and remember
the pleasant act of tasting. to know wine is like a succession of meetings, prepared
and memorized. each tasting is a stage, in which a new world opens. this is a new dimension
of pleasure in life, a bit like returning to intimacy with its affinities testing its limits,
as if we went from a third dimension to a fourth dimension

An interesting piece of glassware, that could be even more interesting if you knew what the theory was behind it. How does it work, other than storing corks in? Or is it just having the corks that is the whole idea............
