reiko kaneko: arctic ceramics

'iceberg'
japanese born UK based product designer reiko kaneko has created 'arctic ceramics', a new
series of drinking vessels intended for beverages such as beer, sake and wine. her intention in
creating these designs was to introduce her own japanese tradition of drinking alcoholic
beverages from ceramic glasses to the west.
'iceberg', also part of the series, is a porcelain vessel that is placed over top a glass
to hold ice and keep the drink cold.

reiko kaneko has been a previous participant of designboom's ICFF mart new york 2008.
she has also showcased her work at 'handled with care', a designboom curated exhibition.

the drinking vessels display a silkscreened shadow of the cup's handle onto its side, creating a subtle heart shape.
