I especially like the bowed saw if blade tension is sufficient -- longer strokes are good, and just the end would be fine for overhead pruning.

nice designs!
but why use oak (very rigid) and not ash
and why stainless steel which, although it's shiny (what designers like) , is not as strong as other kinds of alloys

Quite nice indeed, it calls to mind a design-conscious Robinson Crusoe had he taken the time to plant a garden on his island (the better to keep Friday occupied and properly versed in the arts of the shrubbery).

However : I have a few issues with the materials.

- Humidity (wet soil, watering, etc...) : can the wood keep from naturally bending as it is often enclined to do ?
- Tension ( from lifting soil with the spade ) : while admirable in compression, wood fibers tend to rupture under tension. Is continued use a problem?
I'd have kept the shape of the shaft but turned it 90 degrees to better accomodate the motion of digging. (this is minor as most people tend to care for their tools ).
- Elasticity : wouldn't moving the bow saw to and fro play on the bow's flexibility ? I'd be afraid to unhook the blade. Or just breaking it when tension is insufficient.
- Dirt : While incredibly beautiful, is rope the best solution for the grips ? what treatment do you suggest to keep them from getting spoiled under outdoor use ?

Eye-catching project nonetheless.
