ellen thomas: urglass lamp

'urglass' lamp

the 'urglass' project by british industrial designer ellen thomas is a lamp design that
began as an investigation into how people utilize light while taking into considering
its effects on space and the problems involved with portability. the results is a product
that derives its aesthetic from a workman's lamp featuring cleats to conveniently
wrap the wire around.

'I wanted to create a light for all occasions; a light that would be adaptable.
I wanted my lamp to encompass not only some of the functional characteristics
of these products, but also some of their aesthetics; to have a feel of a task
product whilst being aesthetically suited to the domestic environment.

Imaginative, but what type of lamp/bulb is used? Is it energy efficient and does not emit harmful infrared and ultraviolet rays?

Gersil N. Kay, you are really concerned with energy efficiency, harmful infrared and ultraviolet rays....
The lamp is indeed nice. Nice way of solving the cables device mesh that is invading us nowadays....:)
