perfect!

The bike looks great! I love the use of different materials used to their benefit.
I am however, unsure of the steering mechanism. It is more complex than the usual single arm pivoting in the middle and it makes the hand rotate forward with the handle causing pressure on the wrist. The typical pivot handlebars keep the hand orientation the same as one rotates the handlebars. Also since this is a city bike, I don't see any suspension on the rear wheel which would help out with road noise and potholes. I feel this is a beautiful compact long wheelbase recumbent which could push a little more to make it a fantastic mainstream bike.

will it be comfortable and easy for legs to move in this horisontal-ish position?
darina   09.07.10
If you are not familiar with recumbent bikes they are very comfortable. They give you a relaxed riding position and full side and forward view. They elliminate any back and neck stress as well. They do, however, take a few rides to get used to.

Its is already called the Green Machine by Flevobike

I like the design but i don't get the "city" concept. I ride my bike a lot and the problem in the city is mainly sorting traffic. Recumbents are very unstable and hard to maneuver at low speeds. Also starting can be quite difficult and you need some extra space comparing to upright bikes.
So unless your city has very nice cycle-ways all over I think it would be hard and unsafe to use.
pedro   09.08.10
It looks nice, but for the "city" label it needs a few things so it's not just an exercise machine, to wit: fenders/mudguards, a rack/basket/pocket to carry things, maybe lights, and some way to lock/secure.

Isn it supposed to be sustaenable?, Well when i saw the parameters of the competition, they where as "city bike" and as "sustainable vehicle", Im cool with the Aluminium (is one the materials to use less energy to be recovered, plus its recovered almost 100%) but carbon fiber is not green at all, and the seat? is it leather, which process is quite ungreen as well, anyways...Im agree with Pedro, isnt very city... at list some cities that I have been, never in Seoul though... good "concept" but not very effective with the competition parameters...

Interesting design. However, as already posted above, it cannot be considered a "city" bike (neither a daily one I say). Too many usability matters. Still in love for "traditional" frame / posture design. Good night and good luck.
Pista_Brera   09.09.10
nice recumbent. very tasteful use of materials too. Though I think you'd be squashed by a truck within seconds of taking to Seoul's streets with it.
Are entrants allowed to publish their designs? surely the competition is still ongoing?
billyray   09.09.10
I ride a recumbent in the city almost every day and find it just as suitable as an upright but far more comfortable. Keep up the good work. This is the most practable bike in the lot.

It is like my 15 years old Flevobike Amigo (before the Green Machine) I am using in the town of Leiden, but then without city reqirements (luggage platform, lights, accessoires against wet road, comfortable seat, park facility ...).
And also without the necessary front and back suspension and variable position of the steer.
