marc newson: nike zvezdochka



australian designer marc newson designed the zvezdochka series of shoes for nike to celebrate the opening of his
exhibition ‘transport’. the limited edition shoe takes its name from the russian dog who was sent in space on
sputnik 10 in 1961. the exhibition features a variety of newson’s projects focused on transportation and human
locomotion. the new aquariva yacht is among the works included in the show. the zvezdochka takes inspiration
from the boat’s unique colour scheme, with a colourful outer shell in mahogany brown and aegean blue and a grey
inner mesh boot. the shoes will be sold exclusively through the gagosian shop in new york, while ‘transport’ is
showing at the gagosian gallery from now to october 16th.

Actually, Newson did not design these for the opening of his 'transport' exhibition. These were originally released in 2004, exclusively through the New York design store Moss, in partnership with Nike.
