‘lobby-for-the-time-being, bronx museum of the arts. designed by vito acconci with dupont™ corian®
images by bradley rothenberg.
the lobby of the bronx museum of the arts is currently filled with a large scale installation by vito acconci studio made
entirely from dupont™ corian®. the project is designed to ‘explore how the body inhabits and activates public space’.
acconci is a bronx native and manipulated the white corian sheets with his studio designers adam jakubowski and
bradley rothenberg to resemble fabric by folding, stretching and curving them into various complex geometries.
the main element of the installation is a large wall in the middle of the lobby which loops around over and over to
create seats, tables and bookshelves. projections display light over the project creating intricate shadows on the wall.
the installation will be open through january 2, 2011. the corian® was supplied by dolan and traynor and fabricated by
associated fabrication.
