‘kapstokstoel’

‘revised craft’ is the newest collection of furniture pieces by dutch designer sjoerd vroonland. when developing the series, vroonland asked himself a number of questions: ‘is a chair purely functional? is it a showpiece and a visual story? or is it an expression of technical know-how and therefore representative of its era?‘

in an attempt to answer his questions, he deconstructed 19th and 20th century design classics, translating the craftsmanship of the pieces into new materials, and developing new construction techniques.

the collection starts with a conceptual stage where no concession has been made towards comfort, but only a focus on visual design and silhouette.

the ‘kapstokstoel’ design is a translation of how a chair is used. vroonland draws on the manners and customs of how we use a chair, transforming it into a hanger seat.
