miriam aust: 'vase & leuchte' at interieur 2010 kortrijk

'vase & leuchte' by miriam aust
with her projects 'vase & leuchte' (vase & light) and 'wohnbeet', german designer miriam aust
brings the garden home by combining domestic objects with plant cultures.
on show now at the 'youngdesignersfair', interieur 2010 in kortrijk, belgium.
'vase & leuchte' is a series of three glass plant lights that combine the functions of a ceiling lamp
with a vase. a cylindrical barrier circumscribes the light fixture, providing a recess for the plants.
being made out of glass, the natural roots of the living plants become a decorative element to the lamp.
the object can be lowered by the hanging cables for watering and tending.
accommodating plants in its armature, 'wohnbeet' is a piece of furniture that fully integrates
the garden with its purpose as a seating object. the design of the piece can vary and solely depends
on the gardener and the plant.

'wohnbeet'
but i'm sorry to say that the plants will die very soon, because the roots cannot be exposed to light (that's why plant roots grow underground where there isn't much light).
this idea could be taken further.
Please let me know where i can get these growing vessels. I live in the USA.
For the designer...I also wonder if you could design plant grow lights that can attach right to the potted plants. So each pot gets a light source...regular dirt filled pots having their own light source attached...and hopefully not needing an electrical outlet near by. This way my plants can be placed in any dark corner and still have their own light source to get them through the long dark winter.
