wuehl yanes: wood stove at interieur 2010 kortrijk

wood stove by wuehl yanes

swiss designer wuehl yanes shows his 'wood stove' at the interieur biennale in kortrijk, belgium,
as part of the 'youngdesignersfair'.

for his graduation project at the ecal university of art and design, lausanne, switzerland,
he created this little sculptural stove, that could fit into a room, to bring back the cosy fire place atmosphere.
you can either leave the stove closed or open, to either use it as a heater or a fire place. the base, made of concrete,
is used to store the wood. the smoke evacuation is placed at the back so that the top could be flat, which allows
a surface to place a teapot or a pan filled with water for air humidity.

lovely, but how does it vent?
dbkii   10.21.10
Fantastic design, I want one!! I hope you will find a distributor soon, good luck!
Willemien van Egmond   10.21.10
Wow, I love the close and open fire idea. Vent is at the back but we can not see it on those pictures, it is better like that I think.
PN   10.21.10
I love the design, but itīs true that it doesnīt vent (it doesnīt have any hole or tube in the pictures or the drawins), and if it vents by the front, itīs very uncomfortable and breaks all the design...and ventilation itīs very important thing when talking about stoves :)
NOIR   10.22.10
I like very much the design, but I also think the smoke is a problem.
jose   10.22.10
design? huh- forgot the fumes.....
you could have done a really good design by thinking a little more.
michael   10.24.10
If you read a little it's explain that the smoke evacuation is placed at the back so that the top could be flat, which allows a surface to place a teapot or a pan filled with water for air humidity....
ness   10.24.10
gorgeus!!! where can i buy one??? pls email me at my webiste www.studioloko.pl. Congrats!!
Asia Real   10.24.10
ECAL students' works are very impressive
BIG   10.24.10
Great looking stove, but even more impressive is some posters inability to read an article before griping about the items design...
JMD   10.25.10
It is a very attractive stove, but I doubt it would be practical in regular use. Modern stoves have undergone extensive engineering to ensure proper combustion of all the gases. Control of primary and secondary draft to the fire is essential for clean burning fires.

Without knowing more details about how clean it burns I doubt that this would be legal in many places with clean air laws
Mike   10.25.10
Right dbkii my wonder is how does it vent or is it only intended to be used outside in the open air ?
celeste raposo   10.25.10
Nice design but appears totally impractical. Without a flue to create a venturi, it will produce mostly smoke and no heat. I assume the fire in the pic is photoshopped....
gbhb   10.25.10
esto no funciona, es solo arte.
nomade   10.26.10
El humo por dnd sale???
Jordi   10.26.10
So, the smoke goes out the back. Ok. But when the front opening is closed, where does the air needed for combustion enter?

Pretty looking, but not functional.
nope   10.27.10
exactly nope, I saw this wood stove in Kortrijk and discuss with the designer, when it's closed the air needed for combustion enter from below by the side of the drain pipe of ashes. we see it in the second picture on top of log.
jean   10.27.10
it's amazing so many of you can type questions, yet cannot seem to read. (the venting is explained) or is it just that one sentence is too much to read when you are half-assing incisiveness?
hans daniel   10.27.10
venting=valid question simply because its not shown and is such an essential part of an indoor log burner.
