miriam aust: a book shelf

'a book shelf'
in almost every household, one can find old books, placed on a shelf like trophies,
sometimes never touched or read again. german designer miriam aust offers 'a book shelf',
a shelving system that offers these books a new presence and function within the home.
an arbitrary number of shelf boxes of different dimensions, form the base of the shelves.
each crate is oriented in height and depth, based on a pair of books, creating an individual frame
around them. the books are slid into grooves within the frame, thus forming small hinged storage
spaces within. for the construction of such a customized type of shelf, a program has been created
which allows one to choose the books from their collection for the individual units,
arranging the boxes and drawing up plans for construction.
