nendo: pyggy bank at tokyo designers week 2010

'pyggy bank' by nendo
'pyggy bank' by nendo / design concept is designed for isetan departmant store's
'piggy bank collection' exhibition which is being held as part of tokyo designers week.
unravelling the history of the piggy bank, nendo learned that the name for the money collecting objects,
dates back to medieval europe, when unused coins were saved in household jars made of unglazed reddish clay,
or 'pygg'. a play on words from 'pygg' to 'pigg' led to the piggy bank, as we know it today.
nendo's 'pyggy bank' takes this history into consideration as its design concept.
its form offers money savers a pig-snouted bottle and jar, existing somewhere between 'pygg' and 'pig',
made from unglazed fired clay, in which individuals can place their hard-earned coins.

taiwanese bamboo basket weaving techniques are translated into a stainless steel version of the craft, where thin slices of the metal are joined and woven into a furniture piece.
nendo: bisazza bagno collection
the fixtures envision a bathing environment which expresses privacy and functionality, while still maintaining a sense of gathering.
501 design studio: rainbow ruler
the 'rainbow ruler' consists of a repeating pattern of seven-colored acrylic resins, replacing numbers with color. a good alternative for those who are visual learners, and not so numerically inclined.
tanimatsumura: 'waft' stool
a stool made of hybrid plywood (laminated aluminium and beech wood) whose twisted form is meant to give the idea of 'leaves floating in the air'.
