torafu architects: air vase

'air vase' details

'air vase' by tokyo-based torafu architects is a paper bowl that envelops air.
you can freely change its shape by molding it into the form of a small bowl or vase according to one's intended 'usage'.
the thin and lightweight paper from which it is made, gives strength and resistance to the bowl.
colors on each side of the paper create a different impression depending on the various angles from which you look at it.

designboom just bought a vase (pack of 3) at clasca store in tokyo.
it's not as easy as it seems. at first it was very hard to conceive a perfectly symmetrical shape.
the making can be a little bit tricky but once mastered it is a technique you can use over and over again.

the 'rainbow ruler' consists of a repeating pattern of seven-colored acrylic resins, replacing numbers with color. a good alternative for those who are visual learners, and not so numerically inclined.
