in japanese, the word ‘shou-soku’ (also pronounced as shou-soko) is derived from ‘shou’, meaning yin-energy vanishing and ‘soku’, meaning yang-energy arising. combined, they mean a state of being – for humans or things – at a very transient moment. it also conveys the progression from vanishing to appearing, or the state of declining vs. flourishing.

‘line’ is a presentation of independent, consciously purifying and simplified design in which the ‘noises’ contained within the objects’ raw material are removed. the furniture is composed to enclose shapes in a way that they create a single line of consciousness. the ‘shou’ and ‘soku’ are visibly expressed in their designs. they create calm yet strong forms through their continuous analysis of details of simple wooden timbers — the designer states.
