jahara studio: neorustica furniture collection

designer brunno jahara with the 'neorustica' furniture collection
brazilian based designer brunno jahara of jahara studio, has just completed a collection of furniture called 'neorustica',
that is constructed from scrap wood, collected in brazil (as a means of paying homage to the
country's rural background), and accented by the strong colors of the vibrant brazilian culture.
'neorustica' consists of 10 furniture pieces which function as containers, tables and benches.
each one is named after a shanty town or favela in rio de janeiro, jahara's hometown. names include:
caricó, coda mart, pave, rocinha, tuiuti, uribu, vidigal and vila canoa. with this collection, jahara wants to highlight
the living condition of people that moved to the countryside into big cities searching for a better life
(i.e. improvised homes made from scraps).

'babilonia'
for the project, he has teamed up with NDT brazil, that specializes in working with wood that is reclaimed
from construction or demolition sites, and who is producing the collection. each plank of wood that makes-up
the furniture pieces are painted with bright colors, giving them character, accenting the natural texture of the
aged wood being used. in this way, jahara wants to invite users to touch and feel the textures of the pieces.

'babilonia'
a non-toxic varnish has been chosen, along with water based paints. inside each of the cabinets (or containers)
is a special laminate made out of recycled PET bottles which is both durable and easy to clean.
