french-based designers ronan + erwan bouroullec's upcoming show 'album' at arc en rêve,
is the first exhibition devoted to their work in france. it brings together about 800 documents from their archive
that they have selected over the last few months. from sketches to mock-up outlines, preparatory drawings to pictures,
the pieces on show are meant to translate the multiplicity of the studio's work in a panoramic arrangement.
within six thematically organized exhibition areas spanning 400m2, all the documents on show are intended to be
presented at the same level, regardless of whether or not they relate to industrial design, architecture projects, gallery spaces
or research. even if the pieces are different in scale, all the visuals are framed in exactly the same way so that
there is no hierarchy between them. for example, one feature of the exhibition is an entire wall displaying
approximately a hundred drawings of chairs which have never been made. the 'album' is designed to be a kind of
'treasure trail', guiding viewers through the various projects and approaches that coexist in the bouroullec brother's workshops
and to convey their multi-faceted production.
