one tenth: PET bottle humidifier

'hollow' generates steam from the water in the bottle

one tenth design has given designboom an exclusive preview of their project 'hollow', a PET bottle humidifier.

'hollow' uses ordinary plastic bottles in a specially designed base to create a small humidifier.
production is resource-efficient, involving only three sets of parts for the base,
which draws water from the upturned plastic bottle and releases it as moisture-laden steam.

sorry, but why do you need steam? whats the use of steam??
CAM   12.16.10
@CAM In very cold climates, when the temperature drops to, say, -30celcius, the absolute humidity in the air is extremely low - most of the moisture freezes out of the air, leaving it very dry. As air gets exchanged between indoor and outdoor, this leaves the living environment very dry. A humidifier (steam maker) adds moisture to the air. Plus, y'know, it looks pretty kewl.

Hello. Love the design of 'Hollow'. I have been looking for a pet-bottle-humidifier with a great design, and now finally I found it! One question.. When will it be released for sale? Where can I buy (hopefully online)?

Hi, apart from the simple clean form and the hollow idea of this humidifier I found interesting, there is actually something really similar selling in Japan already, have a look
